Edible Fish Species (Carribean/Mexico)?
I’m renting a house in Mexico that is on the shore (Gulf side, Caribbean) and I’d love to do some fishing and serve fresh fish to my guests. The problem is that I’m not sure which taste good and if there are any that arent edible for whatever reason (too many bones, poisonous, etc). If anyone could point me to an online guide or book I’d appreciate it.

Red drum, black tip shark, flounder, seatrout both speckled and sand, gafftopsail catfish, dolphin fish, cobia, pompano, sheepshead, and redsnapper are all good eatting. Cobia is one of the best and dolpin fish are a favorite of mine too. It all depends upon are you fishing in a bay, on the beach, or off shore.
Jack Crevail, tarpon, hardhead catfish, bonito, amber jack, pin fish are all undesirable for food.
Most are identified here with fishing tips, eatting recommendations and distribution as well as habitat prefered:

Go to the closest marina. There you will find charter boat Captains more than willing to help you fulfill your Gulf fishing desires. They will also provide tackle and clean your fish for a nominal fee. All you need is an large ice chest and plenty suncreen.
